Hexidecime – find your favourite colours
If you look through my Tumblr feed (where I bookmark images I like) you’ll see a lot of beige, salmon, olive, turquoise, scarlet and mustard. If you asked my favourite colour on any given day I would probably answer one of those. Not very suprising that I like pictures in those colours, right?
However if I want to find out my friend (or client)’s favourite colours it takes a bit more effort. What I am planning to make is a website which can scan any Tumblr, Pintrest, weheartit or picture blog and work out what colours are most used.
For example if Hexadecime scanned this page on my Tumblr:

It would give me a result that might look something like this:

What’s the point of it? Well maybe it’s just another frivolous (and pretty) website that tells you more about yourself than you needed to know. Or perhaps it could help you decide which Resene paint or American Apparel tshirt to get. Maybe it will help advertisers make banners that are aesthetically personalised to you. You’ll have to wait and see.
Seeing words in colour
Apparently synesthesia is uncommon (1 in 23 people experience it) and people find it quite fascinating. I’ve experienced grapheme –> colour synesthesia for as long as I know.
As a young child my mum spelled out my name in jellybeans and I corrected her on the colours she used, because I experienced those letters differently. At that point I assumed all people saw letters, numbers and names in the same colours I did.
Looking at some synesthesia alphabets online there are similarities between what synesthetes see. I’ve made an alphabet of how I see letters and numbers:

I should note that some letters (like H or K) are completely different colours for me when they are in words. I see names in colours as well, and really dislike certain names because of this. The up side of the condition is I remember things like phone numbers or birthdays quite easily. I also see time in 3D.
I don’t “see sounds” or “taste words” like some extreme synesthetes, but I hate the taste of coriander because it reminds me of grasshoppers.
Making the world a more colourful place #letscolour
I love the Let’s Colour Project and this video. It’s always nice to see brands using their resources to help people in need, and this is such a delightful way to do it. It reminds me of the Bras for Africa project or the story of the Red Cross delivering a truckload of lipstick to holocaust victims.
People will always need food and shelter, but sometimes the most powerful gift is a dose of hope and humanity.

Awesome pen that stores colours
via jonohutchison via TechEBlog >
It’s like those pens with 12 different coloured inks, but even better! What a great way to store pretty colours that you come across during the day. It’s a shame you can’t point it at sunsets.
